Training Course and Workshop Reports

The aim of the training courses was to instill an appreciation of benefits and constraints of GIS and remote sensing. Both aquaculture and inland fisheries were covered. Courses were held in Rome (Travaglia and Appelkamp, 1985), Asia (FAO, 1989), Anglophone Africa (FAO, 1991), Francophone Africa (FAO, 1992), and in Latin America. A manual for self-training on GIS and remote sensing applications was produced (Meaden and Kapetsky, 1991) and it is still being widely disseminated to date as much of the main text remains relevant (see http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/003/T0446E/T0446E00.HTM).
