The Twenty-second Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) met in Rome from 17 to 20 March 1997. Delegates from over 100 countries, the United Nations, UN bodies and specialized agencies, as well as other international governmental and non-governmental organizations attended. The Committee has two principal constitutional tasks: (i) to consider and further strengthen international cooperation in fisheries, and (ii) to review the FAO Programme in fisheries and to provide guidance for future work.
