- Reference table management system module operational for the maintenance and dissemination of standard terms, concepts and classifications.
- The Fisheries Ontology Server (FOS) is another FIGIS associated project which started during 2002, co-funded by the Fisheries Department regular programme, ASFA, and WAICENT, and developing under the overall framework of the WAICENT Agricultural Ontology Server (AOS) project. It aims at enhancing the integration of data bases and information systems thanks to the development of relationships between thesauruses. A working prototype was achieved and presented in November 2003.
- XML standard proposals for Fisheries information exchange: To facilitate the provision and exchange of information amongst FIRMS Partners, protocols based on XML technology have been developed. Similarly an XML format for exchanging fishery statistics (FIStatXML) and feeding FIGIS has been developed and is proving successful for exchange and, in conjunction with XSL, to prepare Fishery Statistical Yearbook tables. FIStatXML is likely to be used also by regional fishery bodies for updating their statistics in a FAO-developed dissemination software called FishStat- Training tools in FIGIS XML are available and were experimented with the training of regional fishery body staff in the use of the protocols.
- Standards for the development of spatial information: FIGIS actively contributes to the work of the UN Geographic Information Working Group (UNGIWG), a UN network where most of the useful layers for FIGIS are being developed according to agreed specifications and standards (spatial PAIA web-site).
