The project "Integrated approach to sustainable intensification of agriculture through efficient use of resources" was implemented by FAO and partners in Burundi. The project focused on two major aspects of improved resource use efficiency: supporting farmers in their adoption of innovative, better management practices for sustainable agricultural production through the Farmer Field School and other participatory extension approaches; and support transitions towards improved efficiency of organizations and institutions to provide better services to their stakeholders. Activities included the promotion of integrated aquaculture with livestock, specifically chicken, pigs and goat, to increase production through pond fertilization and diversify revenue streams for family farmers.
