MissionObjectivesThe main objectives of the Subregional Fisheries Commission (CSRP/SRFC) are:
  • to harmonize the long-term policies of member States in the preservation, conservation and exploitation of the fisheries resources for the benefit of the respective populations and;
  • to strengthen cooperation among member States.
Area of competenceEastern Central Atlantic ocean off the coast of SRFC member countries.

Legal frameworkThe Convention establishing the SRFC was signed by Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Senegal in Dakar, Senegal, on 29 March 1985. Guinea became a member of the Commission in 1987 and Sierra Leone in 2004.

StructurePrincipal bodyThe Conference of Ministers of Member States is the decision-making structure of the SRFC. It is composed of the fisheries ministers of the member States. The Conference of Ministers holds ordinary sessions every two years and special sessions when needed. Subsidiary committee
  • The Coordinating Committee is composed of directors of fisheries or any other official designated by the member States. Mandate is to set out recommendations at the Conference of Ministers on questions to be examined and to guide the work of the Permanent Secretariat in the organization of meetings and the implementation of the decisions of the Conference of Ministers.
  • Ad hoc working groups could be established when needed.
SecretariatThe Permanent Secretariat is an executive body, in charge of the implementation of the decisions taken by the Conference of Ministers.
