| Abstract:
| The Act establishes a National Registration Authority (NRA) to enforce the laws relating to agricultural and veterinary chemical products, and to deal with other related matters. It vests functions and powers in the NRA, establishes its constitution and meeting procedures. It also deals with financial aspects, master plans and annual operational plans. It extends to every external Territory which is a participating Territory in the sense of the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act of 15 March 1994. "Chemical product" has the same meaning as in the AGVET Code of the participating Territories. The NRA must publish, in an appropriate manner, in each calendar year approved standards for residues of chemical products in protected commodities. Part 7A contains rules relative to Importation, manufacture and exportation of chemicals. Part 7B contains modifications of the Agvet Codes for the purpose of giving effect to paragraph 3 of Article 39 of the TRIPS Agreement. The last amendments have been introduced by Gene Technology (Consequential Amendments) Act 2000 (No. 170, 2000). They provide, among other things, for consultation with Gene Technology Regulator by the NRA. |
