Abstract: The Act sets regulations on fish farming and sale of fish and related activities. The EU Fisheries Committee engages in suggestions to the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fishery in regards to adherence to the EU regulations of fishery. The Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fishery may decide on the application, design, mesh size, location and number of permitted fishing gear and method. Commercial and non-commercial fishing in marine and fresh-waters is regulated by this Act. Regulations for the continuing research in fishery is also established by this Act, and inspection regulations are applied for various fishing-related issues in order to adhere to the Act. Research, fees and rules of fishing vessel requirements are specified in the Act.The Act consists of 24 chapters and 2 Appendix: Purpose, scope and definitions (1); Advisory Committee (2); Administration of the EC legislation and international agreements in fisheries and aquaculture (3); Environmental damage to protected species or international nature protection areas (3a); Conservation and Protection, certain habitats, wild fauna and flora (3b); Types of Fishing and Fisheries Officer (4); Rehabilitation, protection and conservation of fish stocks (5); Fishing gear (6); Regulation of commercial fishing in saltwater (7); Rules of vessels for commercial fishing in saltwater (8); Control of recreational fishery (9); Special rules for freshwater (10); Angle fishing license and recreational signs (11); Fish Care (12); Breeding in salt water (13); Rules of conduct between fishermen (14); Fisheries compared to other activities (15); Initial sale of fish (16); Management of production taxes (17); Scientific studies (18); Delegation and appeal (19); Submission and processing of information (20); Measures during accidents and disasters, including acts of war (20a); Fees, etc. (21); Monitoring and Supervision (22); Penalty, prosecution and confiscation (23); entry into force and transitional provisions (24).Appendix 1 - Table of contents.Appendix 2 - Target species of community interest whose keeping in the wild and exploitation may be subject to management measures.
Comment: This Act is not applicable to Greenland nor the Faroe Islands.
