Abstract: This Act concerns the administration, development and management of harbours in South Australia waters. The objects of this Act include: to provide for the efficient and effective administration and management of South Australian harbours and harbour facilities for the purpose of maximising their use and promoting trade; to ensure that efficient and reliable cargo transfer facilities are established and maintained; to promote the safe, orderly and efficient movement of shipping within harbours and to provide for the safe navigation of vessels in South Australian waters. The Act consists of 91 sections and contains provisions on the administration of the Act (Part 2), the acquisition and resumption of land for the purpose of developing harbours (Part 3), navigational aids (Part 4, Div. 1), clearance of wrecks (Part 4, Div. 2) and on restrictions on the use of waters (Part 4, Div. 3). Part 5 is dedicated to harbours and ports administration and management, Part 6 to crewing, Part 8 to the hiring of vessels, Part 9 to the registration of vessels and loadline certificates, Part 10 to safety and Part 11 to accidents. Other provisions concern the Court of Marine Enquiry, the unlawful use of vessels and recreational boating.
