Strategies
  • The Strategy for Improving Information on Status and Trends of Capture Fisheries (Strategy-STF) was adopted by FAO Members and endorsed by the UNGA in 2003. It provides an overall framework and plan for the improvement of fishery statistics and information. The FishCode-STF Project supports implementation of the Strategy-STF with a particular emphasis on capacity building in developing countries.
    Strategy STF and FishCode-STF Project
  • At international level, the Unit continues to promote the use of standard international classifications and definitions, mainly through systematic consultation and co-ordination with other fishery agencies responsible for international fishery statistical activities, but also with national administrations. Such co-ordination and the use of international concepts, classifications and methods promote international data comparability.
Coordinating Working Party on Fisheries Statistics (CWP)
  • At the national level FIES provides technical assistance to countries in enhancing their capacity to collect, process and analyse fishery statistical data. Due to its institutional mandate, such enhancements are limited to systems to collect and process statistics of catches, landings and aquaculture, which are generally the prime responsibility of line Ministries with which FAO co-operates.
Funding
