FAO is the main and primary agency in the UN system in charge of fisheries. FAO provide a global forum to discuss any fisheries related matters. FIE acts as the Secretariat of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI), a governing body of FAO in fisheries. It also promotes global coordination among relevant agencies and organizations in the field of fisheries.
