The FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department develops and implements international instruments with regard to capture fisheries and aquaculture such as UNCLOS, the UN Fish Stocks Agreement and the FAO Compliance Agreement. It also monitors implementation of these instruments and reports on progress to the Committee on Fisheries and the United Nations General Assembly. Technical assistance is provided for the development of regional and national plans of action.

Code of Conduct and International Plans of Action

The Department promotes and supports the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and related International Plans of Action (IPOAs) and the Strategy-STF and Strategy-Aquaculture, including through activities such as providing information and advice, assistance for the development of related plans of actions and capacity building and elaborating technical guidelines.

Partnership in support of the Code

FishCode, a global partnership for responsible fisheries resources for information on programme activities, geographical coverage and donor and agency alliances, supports major projects to contribute to the implementation of the Code of Conduct.
