As subscribed in the Memorandum of Understanding, FAO and CITES are cooperating to promote capacity building in developing countries on issues relating to commercially-exploited aquatic species listed on CITES appendices.

In response of the need for capacity-building to assist States to meet their obligations under CITES, FAO, also with considerable support from the Japan funded Trust Fund Project on “CITES and commercially-exploited aquatic species”, is carrying on a wide range of activities focused on following aquatic species listed on the appendices:

• Sea cucumbers

• Humphead wrasse

• Sharks

• Queen conch
