For each fishery assessed, there are eight main components in three categories in the generic model. Application in the LAPE area did not require the indigenous component. Each of the seven remaining components were expanded or ‘unpacked’ into additional sub-components and sub-sub-components as required.

As each component tree was unpacked the participants identified relevant issues for the fishery in question. The list of issues was recorded and subsequently a qualitative risk analysis was used to assign priorities to the issues in each country.

Finally a synthesis of the common, high priority issues was made for the pelagic fisheries within the LAPE area.
