APFIC is an FAO Regional Fishery Body that acts as consultative forum working in partnership with other regional organizations and arrangements and members. It provides advice, coordinates activities and acts as an information broker to increase knowledge of fisheries and aquaculture in the Asia Pacific region, to underpin decision making.
The functions of the Committee are: to promote, coordinate and assist national and regional fishery surveys and research and development programmes designed to rationally utilize inland fishery resources.
COPESCAL promotes the investigations for the rational use of the inland fisheries resources, to advise the Governments of the Region to establish scientific bases to apply measures of fishing planning, to support the development of the aquaculture and to encourage the training and the education to obtain these aims.
