The Food Loss and Waste in Fish Value Chains Platform
This platform (hereinafter the “Digital Platform”) is an open participatory portal that allows users to have access to and submit information on Food Loss and Waste in Fish Value Chains (FLWFVC).
Contribute
Contributions from the public are critical to continuously update and compile information on FLWFVC. To share knowledge and to keep the Digital Platform relevant, users may Contribute by submitting content (as defined in the Terms and Conditions). All submitted material must be relevant to FLWFVC. It must be in the FAO official languages and meet the content requirements specified below in order to get published. Users may submit content by filling out a Submission Form.
By submitting content or joining the Newsletter, you confirm that you read, understood and agree to the Terms and Conditions below.

Users may have access to news and updates on FLWFVC, by joining the FLWFVC Newsletter.
Terms and Conditions
By accessing the Digital Platform, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
1. “Digital Platform” means any feature available to the users within the FLWFVC website, including the ‘Contribute’, ‘Join the FLWFVC Newsletter’, and any other feature which may be made available on the FLWFVC website.
2. “Contact Data” means data provided by you when contacting FAO by any means, including by sending an email or filling a form. The Contact Data comprise: (a) your name and/or surname, (b) your email address; (c) your postal address; (d) your telephone number; (e) the organization or company you are representing or working for, if applicable; (f) your area of expertise; (g) any other content or information conveyed by means of your communication to FAO. The Contact Data may include Personal Data.
3. “Personal Data” means any information relating to a person who is or can be identified either from the data, or from the data in conjunction with other information that is in, or is likely to come into, the possession of FAO. Personal Data may include but is not limited to, an individual’s (a) name and/or surname, (b) place/date of birth, (c) age, (d) gender, (e) nationality and/or ethnicity, (f) country, state, postcode, city or village of residence, (g) job details, (h) personal contacts (e.g. postal address, email address, telephone number, etc.).
4.“Processing of Personal Data” means any operation or set of operations which is performed on or using Personal Data, whether or not by automatic means, such as collection, recording, organization, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, blocking, erasure or destruction.
5. “Third Party(ies)” means any natural or legal person, public authority, agency or any other body other than the user or FAO, which may access and process data from the Digital Platform.
6. When submitting your data, you will be required to submit some personal information, including name, surname, address, telephone number, email address, and area of expertise.
7. By submitting entries to the Digital Platform, you agree that personal data, may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the Digital Platform and any other purposes outlined in these Terms and Conditions.
8. FAO reserves the right at any time, and from time to time, to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Digital Platform, including any means of accessing or utilizing them, at its sole discretion with or without prior notice to users.
9. Responsibility of User. As a user, you acknowledge and agree that you:
- will comply with all applicable laws, including, without limitation, privacy laws, intellectual property laws, anti-spam laws;
- cannot enter data for anyone else other than yourself;
- may only submit materials for which you have the right or permission to distribute electronically and to authorize others to redistribute;
- cannot create a false identity, or misrepresent your identity, affiliation with a person or entity, past or present, or your current or previous positions and qualifications;
- are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and security of the information that you provide when accessing or using the Digital Platform, including any Personal Data;
- are responsible for independently verifying the accuracy and completeness of all data, information and contents of the Digital Platform;
- cannot publicly represent or imply that FAO is participating in, or has sponsored, approved or endorsed the manner or purpose of your use of the Digital Platform.
10. By using the Digital Platform, you agree that FAO may - in accordance with the choices you make about who can see content or information, when applicable - reproduce, distribute, display and create derivate works, without any further consent, notice and/or compensation to you or others, of the data provided in the Digital Platform, including Contact and Personal Data, in connection with the purpose of the Digital Platform and the promotion of FAO’s work, in:
11. FAO shall process all data in accordance with its rules, policies and practice, to the exclusion of any single national system of law.
12. Disclaimer and Liability. While the information contained in the Digital Platform is periodically updated, no guarantee is given that the information provided is correct, complete, and up-to-date. FAO shall not be responsible for any entries that are not received due to internet or software failures. FAO does not represent or endorse the accuracy or reliability of any data, information or other material provided by any user in the Digital Platform. FAO explicitly disclaims any responsibility for the content of such data, information and materials provided or processed through the Digital Platform.
13. Links to other websites are provided for the user's convenience only and do not constitute endorsement by FAO of material at those sites, or any associated organization, product or service.
14. Users are responsible for independently verifying the accuracy and completeness of all data, information and contents and bear the sole responsibility and risk for their access and use of the contents of third party information.
15. Under no circumstances shall FAO bear responsibility to any user or Third Parties for any misrepresentation, inaccuracy, error, omission, deletion, defect, alteration of any content of the Digital Platform, or for its timeliness or completeness.
16. FAO shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from, or directly or indirectly connected to, the use of, reference to, or reliance on any information contained in the Digital Platform, including, but not limited to, any liability arising from any intentional or negligent misuse, errors, disclosure, undue transfer, loss or destruction of data that may occur.
17. Data deletion and retention. Privileges and Immunities. Nothing contained in or related to these Terms and Conditions shall be deemed a waiver, express or implied, of the privileges and immunities of FAO, or as its acceptance of the jurisdiction of the courts of any country over disputes arising out of these Terms and Conditions or any other document related thereto.
18. Acceptance. By submitting entries into the Digital Platform, you confirm that you read, understood and agree to the Terms and Conditions to be part of the Digital Platform, as set out above.
Content Requirements
Content Requirements
Content:
- will only be accepted in the official FAO languages - Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish;
- should be factual, notable, verifiable with cited sources, and neutrally presented;
- will be entered in compliance with all applicable laws, including, without limitation, privacy laws, intellectual property laws, anti-spam laws;
- should include information that is relevant to the Digital Platform (sensitive or politically controversial material will not be considered relevant);
- will not promote external products or services. Contributions promoting external products or services will not be taken into consideration
Type of content to be submitted:
Article (Journal, magazine, newsletter and/or blog article)
- An article is a written work published in a print or electronic medium which discusses current or recent news of either general interest (i.e. daily newspapers) or of a specific topic (i.e. political or trade news magazines).
Journal
- Periodical publications aimed at disseminating original research and commentary on current developments in a specific discipline, sub discipline, or field of study.
Conference paper
- Materials produced for any kind of meeting, including official meetings and conference, or workshops documents (e.g. written speech and reports given at a specific conference)
Conference proceedings
- Any report or proceedings generated by a meeting, or which discusses the outcome and conclusion of a meeting
Book
- A non-serial publication, written by a single author or collaboratively, based on research or scholarly findings generally derived from peer reviewed funding. It is complete in one volume or a designated finite number of volumes, it has chapters, possibly sections and it must have an ISBN or e-ISBN present.
Manual
- Course and assignment materials produced for teaching purposes.
Report
- A formal, factual, methodological, statistical, technical or research report issued by an individual, group, agency, government body or other institution. Reports disseminate the outcomes and deliverables of a research assignment.
Technical paper
- A document that describes the process, progress, or results of technical or scientific research or the state of a technical or scientific research problem.
Policy brief/ paper
- A concise summary of a particular issue, the policy options to deal with it, and some recommendations on the best option. It is aimed at government policymakers and others who are interested in formulating or influencing policy.
Case study
- A research paper involving an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a subject of study (the case).
Guidelines
- A statement by which to determine a course of action. Guidelines aim to streamline particular processes according to a set routine or sound practice. Guidelines are not binding and are not enforced.
Project
- A document that describes the objectives and outcomes of a field project, reporting on its implementation progress. It may provide details about the budget.
Working paper
- A preliminary paper, usually based on research, not intended for publication but rather for circulation by the author (or authors) to professional peers to provide information or with a request for comments or editorial improvement.
Fact sheet
- A brief presentation of data and information in a format which emphasizes key points concisely (usually no more than 3-4 pages).
