FAO to participate at the 10th World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi

04/02/2020

Organized and convened by UN-Habitat every 2 years the World Urban Forum is the foremost international gathering for exchanging views and experiences on sustainable urbanization, and for monitoring the implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), the Global Commitment on sustainable urbanization signed in Quito in 2016.

Why FAO at the World Urban Forum?

FAO is present at WUF 10 with a stable exhibition booth in partnership with CEMAS and RUAF\HIVOS, two dedicated events and more activities with experts on nutrition, food and urbanization.

Today, over half of the global population is urban and by 2050 an additional 2.5 billion people are expected to live in urban areas. Those trends are constantly challenging food and agriculture, and innovative answers are therefore needed.

That is why FAO has been actively participating in integrating Food Security and Nutrition in the NUA reaching the major milestone of positioning food security and nutrition as an integral part of the Global Commitment on sustainable cities.

In March 2019 FAO has also launched its Framework for the Urban Food Agenda which is strongly aligned to the global commitment expressed in the NUA.
