UN Food Systems Summit follow-up process in Bari

28/09/2022

National Convenors from the Mediterranean gather in Bari to discuss collaboration

Within the framework of the 3rd World Conference on the Revitalization of the Mediterranean Diet, organized by the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Bari on 28-30 September 2022 with the technical support of FAO, the SFS-MED Platform is organising a high-level roundtable session on the UN Food Systems Summit follow-up process.

Taking place on Wednesday 28 September, this multi-country exchange builds on the findings of a series of SFS-MED independent Summit dialogues organized in 2021 by the SFS-MED Platform and the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme, and on the stocktaking exercise, which highlights common patterns, trends, and opportunities for food systems transformation specific to the Mediterranean context.

The session will be moderated by Ms Sylvia Lopez-Ekra, Deputy Director of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub. Mr. Stefano Gatti, Special Envoy for Food Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy will open the session with a keynote speech, and the National Convenors of Albania, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Malta, Morocco, Spain, and Türkiye will share initial lessons learned from the implementation of food systems transformation pathways in their countries, in particular regarding enabling factors and challenges they are experiencing during their journey of transformation, and opportunities moving forward. Discussions will also aim at understanding how inter-country and multi-stakeholder collaboration across the Mediterranean should contribute to pursue joint solutions in addressing common food systems challenges. Finally, the session will allow to propose concrete actions at regional, national and local level to accelerate the change of route towards food systems sustainability, which will contribute to the SFS-MED framework for action to be presented at the end of the Conference.
