The 1st FAO/CBD/OECD webinar on International Databases on Biosafety

The scopes, contents and mandates of the FAO GM Foods Platform, the Biosafety Clearing House and the OECD BioTrack Product Database

Now available: Webinar Report

12 November 2014

FAO, UNEP-CBD and OECD hosted the webinar entitled "the international databases on biosafety" that provided an overview on the scope and content of the FAO GM Foods Platform, the Biosafety Clearing House maintained by UNEP-CBD and the Biotrack product database of OECD. The webinar addressed relevant databases' users, contributors, government authorities, researchers and academia and industry colleagues.

Background to the webinar

Various countries conduct risk assessments on GMOs prior to their release in the environment and their use in food or feed. What are their experiences with risk assessment of GMOs? And what conclusions and decisions are derived from them? Different international organizations facilitate platforms where information on GM risk assessment can be shared.

This webinar provided an overview on the scope and content of the relevant databases. The objective of the webinar was to raise the awareness on the different international biosafety resources available online and to explore how synergies between them can be maximized.
