The FAO GM Foods Platform (http://fao.org/gm-platform/) is an online platform to share information on safety assessment of foods derived from recombinant-DNA plants authorized in accordance with the Codex “Guideline for the conduct of food safety assessment of foods derived from recombinant-DNA plants” (CAC/GL 45-2003, annex III adopted in 2008, available at http://www.fao.org/fileadmin/user_upload/gmfp/docs/CAC.GL_45_2003.pdf). The Platform also facilitates the effective utilization of food safety assessment in situations of Low Level Presence (LLP) of r-DNA plant materials in food.
At the occasion of the 38th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, FAO will hold a side event entitled “FAO GM Foods Platform: recent progress and future directions” on Monday, 6 July 2015. This event will update Codex delegates on recent progress of the Platform. The future directions of the Platform will also be discussed in order to strengthen the Platform community to interact more to exchange relevant data and information. Participants are invited to raise specific capacity development needs for FAO to consider possible provision of technical assistance.
All delegates to the Commission, including Codex Members and Observers are invited to this side event. The side event will be followed by light lunch for all the participants.
