Side event at the occasion of the 8th Session of the joint FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Near East (CCNE8): FAO GM Foods Platform: benefits for CCNE countries
The FAO GM Foods Platform (http://fao.org/gm-platform/) is an online platform to share information on safety assessment of foods derived from recombinant-DNA plants authorized in accordance with the Codex “Guideline for the conduct of food safety assessment of foods derived from recombinant-DNA plants” (CAC/GL 45-2003, annex III adopted in 2008, available at http://www.fao.org/fileadmin/user_upload/gmfp/docs/CAC.GL_45_2003.pdf). Each country is responsible for keeping the shared data up-to-date on the Platform. FAO is responsible for management of the Platform.
This event will provide all the delegates with an opportunity to learn not only the importance of sharing the information on the Platform but also understand the situation on the GM foods of other neighbor countries.
