Summary:

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina are regulated by the Law on Genetically Modified Organisms (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 23/09) and the following Implementing Regulations: - Rulebook on the form and manner of keeping the unique register of genetically modified organisms. (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 17/12). - Rulebook on establishing a system for development and assignment of unique codes for genetically modified organisms (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 68/12). - Rulebook on the content of the notification and technical dossier for the placing on the market of genetically modified organisms or products containing and/or consisting of or deriving from genetically modified organisms and on the requirements for labelling and packaging of genetically modified organisms or products containing and/or consisting of or deriving from genetically modified organisms (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 78/12). - Rulebook on conditions and procedures for granting authorization for placing genetically modified food and feed for the first time on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the requirements relating to their traceability and labeling (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 78/12). - Rulebook on the content and scope of risk assessment for placing on the market of genetically modified organisms and products consisting of, containing or originating from genetically modified organisms and the methodologies for making risk assessments (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 79/12). - Rulebook on conditions of monitoring the environmental impact of genetically modified organisms or products containing and/or consisting of or originating from genetically modified organisms and their use ("Official Gazette of B&H", No. 64/14). Law on Genetically Modified Organisms and Rulebooks are harmonized with relevant European Union legislation. Central Competent Authotity for GMOs is national Food Safety Agency. Rulebook on conditions and procedures for granting authorization for placing genetically modified food and feed for the first time on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the requirements relating to their traceability and labeling (“The Official Gazette of B&H” No. 78/12) stipulates procedure for placing on the market food and feed derived from biotechnology.

My country does not conduct safety assessment of GM food and we do not plan to develop any guidelines for GM food safety assessment.

My country has never conducted safety assessment of GM food and will not (be able to) conduct such assessment in the near future.
Supplemental information on the implementation:

Bosnia and Herzegovina is country in process of access to EU, accordinlly most of our activities relay on EU practice. Bosnia and Herzegovina follows specific topics of safety assessment GM food  of European Food Safety Authority and harmonizing all procedures with relevant EU procedures, which will be continued also in a future.

Currently, in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued the approval placing on the market genetically modified soybeans (MON-Ø4Ø32-6) for a period of five years, to be used exclusively as feed.
