Summary:

Federal responsibility for the regulations dealing with foods sold in Georgia , including GM foods, is shared by Ministry of environmental protection and Agriculture (MEPA) , Ministry of Health and national Food service (NFA). Ministry of Health is responsible for establishing standards and policies related to the safety parameters and nutritional quality of foods and feed and developing health and nutrition policies . MEPA is responsible for establishing all other issues related to food and feed safety, veterinary and plant protection fields, including labeling policies and develops standards related to the packaging, labelling and advertising of foods, the regulation of seeds,  fertilizers and livestock feeds and etc. NFA handles all inspection and enforcement duties. There has never done GM food safety assessment in Georgia. Our country's safety assessment activities would refer to the EU/EFSA documents. My country has a mandatory and positive labeling regulation & allows a voluntary and negative labeling on GM food.
