Summary:

Madagascar has not any legislation of foods derived from r-DNA plants. The Ministry of Trade is responsible for Madagascar quality control of food. But this depatement has no structure to control food issu of this new technology.

Madagascar signed the Cartagena Protocol (CP) in September 2000 and ratified it in 2003;
• National Plan of Biosecurity (PNB) is part of the implementation of the CP;
• This PNB aims to establish a biosafety system;
• This PNB serves as a reference for actions to be undertaken.
General context
• Sectors of GMO production: agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
• Health Code: Law No. 2011-002 of 15.07.2011;
• The article.48: foodstuffs of plant origin that have been grown under the specific mode of GMOs are declared to be hazardous to human consumption due to the risks of modification of the genome, They cause the consumer to run. Their sale as a foodstuff is prohibited throughout the national territory.
• Existence of national legal texts relating to the introduction and use of categories of products that may incorporate LMOs (MECIE, Health Low, Agricultural Low, etc.)
• No institution officially decides that there is research on LMOs.

• To ensure that LMOs are used appropriately, safely and appropriately for sustainable, sustainable development, there is a need for a human and technical biosafety framework and capability to assess and manage risks.

My country does not conduct safety assessment of GM food but the country has, or the country is in the process of developing national/regional guidelines that are not in line with the Codex Guidelines in conducting safety assessment of GM food.
