Summary:

Poland is a Member State of the European Union (EU) and the regulation of GM food takes place at EU level. Safety assessments are carried out by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and include a detailed study of potential for toxic, nutritional and allergenic effects. During the evaluation of applications EFSA consults the Competent Authorities of the Member States. Authorisations are issued by the European Commission on an EU-wide basis.

Mandatory positive labelling provision is set in the Regulation (EC) 1829/2003.

Voluntary negative labeling must comply with provisions (art. 36) of the Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers
