Sound science for safe food

FAO works on the provision of independent scientific advice, risk assessments and related guidance concerning food safety to the Codex Alimentarius Commission and to Governments.

This work is implemented under the FAO/WHO framework for the provision of scientific advice.

Global Initiative for Food-related Scientific Advice (GIFSA) has been established in 2007 to ensure the sustainable funding of the FAO (in collaboration with WHO) programme on the provision of scientific advice to the Codex Alimentarius Commission and member countries.
