THE STORY OF AICHA MAHJOUB

Life in the Moroccan desert

As part of a series of photo journals on how the TeleFood programme helps needy families, a resident of Morocco talks about her daily life.

My name is Aicha Mahjoub. I am 34 years old and live in the community of Tissaf, close to an oasis in the desert of eastern Morocco. I look after a goat herd.

I have five children, all girls, but my five-year-old daughter, Najat, is the only one living with me. One daughter lives with my parents-in-law. My oldest daughter is married and my two teenage girls are in boarding school in the city - they come home once a fortnight. The government pays the boarding fee because we are a very poor family.

My husband, Kadour, often must go away to look for work.
