THE STORY OF SURINDER SINGH
Life in a leprosy colony
As part of a series of photo journals on how the TeleFood programme helps needy families, a resident of a leprosy colony near New Delhi, India, talks about his daily life.
My name is Surinder Singh. I'm 25 years old and live with my family in a government leprosy colony outside New Delhi.
Here I am with my mother, Nathiyadevi, picking some mustard from our fields for lunch. She is 61 and was one of the first people to come to live here, 22 years ago, when she was diagnosed with the disease.
We are both members of the Gandhi Leprosy Society, a community self-help group of about 140 families. |
