Strong support from partners
The challenge of feeding 800 million people who do not have adequate access to food can only be met through a global partnership involving public, private and voluntary sectors.

That is why FAO has decided to draw in support from a wide range of organizations whom it regards as partners in the fight against hunger. Whether governmental or private, these partners each offer their own expertise or financial muscle to TeleFood’s aim of raising public awareness and mobilizing solidarity.

Television broadcasters are at the forefront, and many of them have been instrumental in bringing the message to a wide public. But other organizations have helped through packaging their products to demonstrate their sense of responsibility towards people who face food shortages every day.

Some of the biggest names in the business world have been key players. Adobe Systems for example is the largest contributor to Groundwork 2001, a major awareness and fundraising campaign organized by the United States Committee for FAO. Volkswagen-Italy is also supporting FAO’s campaign with various initiatives throughout Italy.

Help has also come from sources such as the administration of the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The Italian networks RaiUno and RaiDue have broadcast several successful fundraising programmes, and there has been help from towns and provinces throughout Italy, where activities ranging from festival to soccer matches, such as the "Partita del Cuore" organized by the Nazionale Cantanti, have been harnessed to raise funds.

In Spain millions of viewers phoned in contributions to this year's television show hosted by Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), Fundación Telefónica and Banesto Bank. The Spanish Internet service provider Wanadoo has collaborated with TeleFood and World Food Day since 2001 by posting news and images on wanadoo.es, wanadoocampus.com and reyesmagos.com and linking to the FAO Web site.

Satellite communications companies such as Intelsat and PanAmSat have donated satelllite capacity for rebroadcasting TeleFood’s global solidarity concerts.

In France, Internet server Wanadoo dedicated a special site to TeleFood and the problem of hunger, and Air France embarked on a major inflight information campaign.
