On the occasion of the launch of the UN Decade of Family Farming, Vu Le Y Voan, former Vice Director of the International Cooperation Department, Viet Nam National Farmers Union, describes the importance of forestry for family farmers in the country. Forestry helps diversify the products of small farmers and improve their income. Y Voan explains how family farmers in Viet Nam receive support in how to organize themselves in producer groups and training in business development, with the support of the Viet Nam National Farmers Union. By forming producer organizations they improve their productivity, gain better access to markets and reduce poverty. She also explains how her organization plans to help farmers apply innovative techniques for climate change adaptation and resilience and for the conservation of natural resources and landscapes as part of the UN Decade of Family Farming, and how producer organizations play a key role in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
