Trees outside forests / Agroforestry systems
FAO activities
The work of FAO focuses on technology assessment and transfer to member countries, particularly developing countries, including training farmers and technicians in various agroforestry practices. In the last decade, to respond to farmer's needs for food security, fuelwood, medicines, provide environmental and socio-economic benefits and values, and protect water resources and biological diversity, FAO has assisted the member countries to promote intensive integrated trees and crops/livestock systems through the concept of tree outside forests. Because of its multipurpose benefits and choices, this concept is now fully adopted by the farmers.
