Objectives

Following independence, the prime objective of government has been to establish an economic foundation for the future prosperity of the nation and to improve the health, productivity and diversity of non-industrial private lands. There is no real management attention paid to the scattered areas of natural vegetation. Forest management is mainly in terms of agroforestry and tree crops. The government has, however, supported conservation reviews of the islands and expressed a willingness to establish protected areas. The Agriculture Division is involved with beautification projects in Majuro and Ebeye consistent with the government¿s aim of promoting investment in tourism.
