Objectives

There are no identified specific management objectives for forests in the CNMI. Forest management is carried out in accordance with the objectives of wider land management programmes. For example, the Coastal Resources Management Office specifies objectives for coastal management (including coastal forest areas) as:

  • to encourage land use master planning, floodplain management and the development of zoning and building code legislation;
  • to promote, through a program of public education and public participation, concepts of resource management, conservation and wise development of coastal resources;
  • to promote more efficient resource management through, for example, coordination and development of resource management laws and regulations into a readily identifiable programme.
