Objectives

Management objectives for natural resources, including forests, in New Caledonia are based on sustainability objectives. New Caledonia seeks to establish a balance between utilization and preservation of forests. Significant areas of natural forest are managed for conservation objectives; however, almost half the country's forests are also available for harvesting. The principal objective of plantation management in New Caledonia is to provide a future source of timber.
