Objectives

The Ministry of the Environment¿s objectives for environmental management (including forests) in French Polynesia encompass:

  • management through the use of legislative tools and management plans;
  • preservation and management of sensitive natural areas by establishing a natural areas conservation agency which would be responsible, in particular, for site classification and protection, and for the creation of a natural or theme park;
  • improvement of legal instruments by strengthening the current legal framework and harmonizing legislation within an Environmental Code;
  • public awareness, including introductory courses for young people within educational establishments, training of environmental observers and wardens, media campaigns and implementation of a range of deterrent measures.
