American Samoa has a small state-run forest plantation establishment programme, which aims to establish around one hectare of plantations per annum.

Promotion of sustainable forest management

There are no specific incentives or programmes to promote sustainable forest management in American Samoa. Some environmental programmes in American Samoa, however, are eligible for funding under US Government programmes. The country also participates in a number of US programmes, such as the Coastal Management Programme, which extends three miles inland and incorporates management responsibilities for lowland rainforests as well as areas of strand, littoral and mangrove forests. The territory conducts annual environmental awareness weeks. The establishment and management of the National Park of American Samoa has made a substantial contribution to conservation management in the territory¿s forests.
