Managers

Governmental forestry activities in French Polynesia are mainly carried out by the Service du Developpment, which has a small forestry section. The Environment Delegation, part of the French Ministry of the Environment, has overall management responsibility for the natural environment and defines the necessary components for the implementation of a consistent environmental policy. Key aspects of this include measures for the protection, preservation and rehabilitation of the environment, provisions for environmental education and information, and establishing relationships with other environmental organizations. Several advisory commissions also have jurisdiction over environmental matters including the Committee of Regional Planning and the Commission of Sites and Natural Monuments. Land tenure in French Polynesia is spread between state, customary and private ownership.
