NGOs
In addition to the various Government institutions, there are a large number of NGOs which can potentially play an important role in the forestry sector, particularly in the contexts of sustainable management and people-centered development.
The Federation of Community Forestry Users in Nepal (FECOFUN) and Nepalese Federation of Forest Resource User Groups (NEFUG) have been active in advocating and influencing Government policies related to Community Forestry (CF) in Nepal.
Similarly, the Leaseholds Forests (LHF) cooperatives are involved in advocating and influencing Government policies pro the LHF as well as providing soft loans to the leasehold groups.
Other NGOs, such as the Development Project Service Center (DEPROSC-Nepal) and the Society for Partner in Development (SPD) have been working in LHF-related activities.
Private sector
Traditionally, private sector involvement in natural resources management has been in an unorganized form (i.e. in the form of individual traders) and mostly concentrated on the collection and marketing of high-value non-wood forest products, mainly medicinal herbs.
