FAO Forestry country profiles - forest management
Issues and concerns
Resources for forest management are severely constrained. None of the 16 states has adequate financial or human resources to undertake any significant forestry activity. The multiple layers of government and authority is another impediment to effective management of forest resources. State governments retain control over the land whereas the limited technical forest skills reside with the national government. Information on conservation, land tenure and land ownership is limited. On the positive side, Palau exerts relatively low population and economic pressure on forest resources, and consequently there is no overriding need for immediate remedial forest management actions.last updated: Friday, May 13, 2005
