Harvesting practicies

Most of the felled trees in the native forests are transformed on the felling site by pitsawyers, producing planks and double pieces that constitute the raw material for the sawmills. About 60% of the country´s log production originates from logging in small forest properties under the "license of tree surplus". The cutting cycle for native forests has not been defined officially, nevertheless in the management plans the logging cycle is often set at 20-30 years (CTDSIF 1995, FAO 1999).
