Collaborative conflict management

 _

Conflict arising over forest and natural resources has persisted, mainly due to inequitable systems of governance, ambiguous land and resource tenure, and other governance inadequacies. The demand for forestry and natural resource professionals to analyze and mitigate these constraints has dramatically increased.

In order to have more practitioners of conflict management and mitigation, FAO and the NFP Facility have developed an effective capacity building program for officers drawn from national level institutions, both state and non-state. This programme aims at enhancing the capacities of organisations and individuals to deal with forestry related conflicts, using collaborative methods such as consensual negotiation and mediation.
