Genetic and physiological adaptation to changing climate

Session organisers/chairs:

Kurt Johnsen (USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station email:kjohnsen@fs.fed.us) and Bailian Li (Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, United States)

Content:

This session will cover recent research on use of genetic and physiological variation in forest trees to adapt to changing climate.  It is planned to cover the following aspects:

  • predicting adaptive responses of species and populations to climate changes
  • quantifying among-population genetic variation for climate-related traits
  • predicting potential impacts of climate change on ecosystems and species ranges
  • genetic basis and mechanisms for adapting to climate changes
  • physiological adaptation to climate changes
  • genomics data for predicting tree adaptation
