World Agroforestry Centre

Formerly known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), the World Agroforestry Centre is an international non-profit organization whose purpose is to help mitigate tropical deforestation, land depletion and rural poverty through improved agroforestry systems. The World Agroforestry Centre places importance on the interdependence between research and development. The Centre's staff are currently organized into three groups: a Research Group, a Development Group, and a Management Services Group. Staff working in these different groups are located in 23 countries throughout the tropics. The headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya. There are five geographic (regional) programmes and five research and development programmes. In addition the Centre also hosts three CGIAR System-wide Programmes: the Africa Highlands Ecoregional Programme (AHI), the Alternatives to Slash-and-Burn Programme (ASB), and the Gender and Diversity Programme.
