Over 300 participants - forest researchers, managers and decision-makers - representing approximately 60 countries gathered in Umeå, Sweden from 25-28 August 2008 for the Forest Adaptation Conference. With daily keynote speakers and 18 technical sessions, considerable information was presented which allowed for productive discussions on the topic of forests, the forest sector and climate change.
The Conference focused on the current state of knowledge of ongoing changes in climatic conditions in different regions of the world, and the implications of these changes for forest management and conservation. Presentations and discussions emphasized current and projected impacts, as well as research, policies and practices that are needed to enable us to manage healthy, productive forests to meet future societal needs for the full range of forest goods and services.
