Natural forests are concentrated in the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, mainly along the Sarawat Mountains. These mountains have their highest elevation at 3 353 m above sea level at Soda in Asir and gradually decrease to the north to 2 139 m above the sea level in the El-Taif region. Mean annual rainfall is between 300 and 500 mm. Some forests of varying degrees of density, volume, age and species composition also grow in the valleys of the desert areas, and there are some scattered scrubs on rangelands.
