Broadleaved

Riverain forests occur in Sind and Punjub along the banks of the Indus and other rivers, mainly within the protection embankments. They are subject to seasonal flooding with erosion and deposition. Most of these forests are unproductive. They are being converted gradually into plantations. Kikar (Acacia arabica) is the main species with some Populus euphratica, Prosopis spicigera, etc. In the drier parts, Tamarix spp. occur in depressions together with shisham (Dalbergia sissoo). Fuelwood is the main product although, in Sind, kikar is a major source of pitprops, for the mining industry.
