FAO Forestry country profiles - natural woody vegetation
Broadleaved
One form of freshwater swamp forest is dominated by an open-canopied cover of Pandanus spp. with a ground layer of grasses and ferns.
Seasonally Dry Forest
The northern side of Guadalcanal is the only place in the Solomons that experiences a significant rainshadow effect from the interception of south-eastern tradewind moisture by the east-west mountain range. The result is an open mixed deciduous forest with Kleinhovia hospita, Pometia pinnata and Vitex cofassus as typical canopy species, along with the deciduous Antiaris toxicaria, Ficus spp., Pterocarpus indicus , and Sterculia spp. Also present are smaller trees of Cananga odorata, Colona scabra, and Semecarpus spp. The understory is dominated by grassland.
