29 April 2013 The two-year MEDFOR masters program, Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management, is organized by the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Lleida (Spain), University of Padova (Italy), University of Valladolid (Spain), Karadeniz Technical University (Turkey), Catholic University of Portugal, Porto (Portugal) and by the University of Tuscia (Italy). The emphasis is on educating the leaders of the future generation of engineers, managers, researchers, and teachers involved in Mediterranean forestry and natural resources management. The regional project Silva Mediterranea-CPMF (project financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and executed by GIZ) offers six MEDFOR scholarships for female students from Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey with an amount of € 24,690 per student over two years, including university fees for the two year MSc programme and travel costs to Winter School. 19 February 2013 This post doctoral fellow position will contribute to research that seeks to understand the factors that condition equitable benefit sharing in forestry settings that are characterised by multiple uses, users and values. Key issues for investigation include: a) sustainable use and conservation of production forestry, especially interactions between forest concession management and adjacent communities’ rights and benefits to forest resources; and b) the role of property rights/tenure regimes in enhancing equitable benefit sharing within and among communities involved in REDD+ schemes. The research aims to strengthen policy makers and relevant actors’ capacities to develop and implement strategies and processes that are inclusive of women and disadvantaged groups and that enhance their rights and access to forest resources, decisions and benefits.
