4 February 2016 The CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry: Livelihoods, Landscapes and Governance (FTA) is a world-leading research initiative, responding to the call for urgent, strong and sustained effort focused on forest management and governance, given the crucial role of forests in confronting some of the most important challenges of our time: climate change, poverty, and food security. The FTA brings together several hundred scientists from the following six program participants: four CGIAR Research Centers (the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)) and two non-CGIAR Organisations (CIRAD and CATIE), as well as many other partners. 18 January 2016 The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), a commodity organization headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, is in the process of appointing a new Executive Director. The ITTO mission is to promote the expansion and diversification of international trade in tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested forests and the sustainable management of tropical timber-producing forests. The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the Organization and responsible to the International Tropical Timber Council for the administration and operation of the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 2006, in accordance with decisions of the Council. 14 January 2016 The United Nations Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UNREDD Programme) is a collaboration programme between FAO, UNDP and UNEP. Within the partnership, FAO supports countries on technical issues related to national forest monitoring systems (NFMS), the development of cost effective and reliable Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) processes and tools for emission reductions, forest reference levels and forest reference emission levels, as well as on forest governance, tenure and legal issues in the context of REDD+ activities. The UNREDD Programme is growing rapidly. The Organization therefore wishes to recruit a UN-REDD technical advisor to support all member countries in their efforts to develop Forest Reference Emission Levels and/or Forest Reference Levels for REDD+ to ensure technical consistency its with the guidance provided by the UNFCCC and develop and implement improvements over time, and lease with other Organisation’s efforts in in this areas for knowledge sharing and coordination.
