Linkages between criteria and indicators processes and the FAO's Forest Resources Assessment Programme, FRA

The Forest Resources Assessment Programme(FRA) is aimed at providing reliable, timely and periodic information on the state of forest resources worldwide.

FRA¿s mission is also directed at enhancing human well-being through support to member countries in achieving sustainable management of trees and forests.

In line with the evolution of complex concepts such as sustainable forest management and sustainable development, FRA has developed from a timber oriented mode some decades ago to include a broad set of environmental and socio-economic aspects of forests and trees.

Yet this process needs continuous improvement, and criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management have an important role to play in it.
