Saint Kitts and Nevis is located in the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean Sea about 310 km east of Puerto Rico. It is comprised of two of the Leeward Islands, Saint Kitts or Saint Christopher, and Nevis, which lie about 3 km apart. The country covers a total area of 261 km2 St. Kitts island is 168 km2 and Nevis covers 93 km2.
Both islands are of volcanic origin, with rolling hills and narrow fertile plains along the coasts. The island of Saint Kitts is traversed by a mountain range, the highest point being Mount Liamuiga, 1 156 m. The highest point on Nevis is 985 m.
The climate is tropical; the average annual temperature is 27° C. Annual rainfall is about 1 400 mm.
